FRANKENSTEIN | my experience playing with instax

I’m a fool for old cameras and film. So when a friend of mine, Aditya Nur Akbar offered an instax with an old medium format lens attached, without thinking twice I said yes. I adopted it without knowing how it looks like or how far will it affects my life. I have some polaroid cameras to play with, all using 600 or FP100c film. so to be honest, looking at how small instax is, it had never cross my mind.

But to my surprise, this camera I called “frankenstein” becomes one of my favorite and most used camera. First, for sure it’s much more affordable than the 600. Second, it’s so easy to use so I can use it anytime without thinking a lot.

Quality wise. it’s obvious that the bigger the film is, the deeper the dimension. I would choose 600 or fp100c over these for the 3d effect. The 600 and fp100c also tangibly more professional since it’s harder than the instax. but since the lens has been changed, I can use instax fully manual now just like my land polaroid cameras, the result’s also a bit more dramatic than the 600 I use in my i-type polaroid cameras.

as a note, I broke the lens. Used it on my son’s birthday party and while a bit tipsy I accidentally pulled the lens. It can’t be as perfect but even better in a way. It has a tilt shift effect now. still obvious even in f/11. LOVE IT TO THE BONE!!

here’s some of my instax SQ6 shots compared to 600 on my daily life at home. tell me which one is which now. lol.

1989 Fragments | a birthday gift to my own self

What is it with this book, many asked.
I answered the same, it’s basically an autobiography of me through pictures and poems. Staying with this mental condition and still survived to celebrate my 30th birthday is a big deal and I think I deserved to celebrate this and to share this with others.

I used pictures, symbols and parables to deliver the messages. It was a dark and mental issue triggering book that might not be suitable for those who are struggling with such thing. It told at least 40% of the things I fought my whole life.

The photographs are far from perfect. most of them were shot on film, and just like life, they’re full of flaws but yet still enjoyable. the stains, grains, lines, numbers, and all the limits people usually complained about when using film, that’s what I showed in the book, wildly.

The selling will be open tomorrow, a minute after 23:59 on 19th of July, and limited to 100 pcs only. All the details could be found on www.soupnfilm.com and inside the book as well.

here are some teasers of what you will find in this book that I won’t reproduce again, not until my other decades at least. I hope you could have this piece of my life.
